Apple skips iOS 27.1 for most iPhones
The update was released exclusively for the iPhone Duo, with other models set to jump directly to version 27.2 next week.

Apple typically pushes point releases to every compatible device, but the company broke that pattern this week. On the night before October 23, Apple sent iOS 27.1 over the air, but only to owners of the new iPhone Duo.
Users checking the Software Update menu on other iPhone models will see iOS 27.0.1 as the latest available version. The company has bypassed the 27.1 version number entirely for those devices, planning to move them directly to iOS 27.2. That release is scheduled to arrive for all users next week.
The decision to isolate the update appears driven by a need for secrecy and engineering control. Although Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo last month, many specific features and design details have only recently emerged. By skipping a standard beta cycle for 27.1, Apple kept that information contained until the official launch window.
Internal management of the new hardware likely influenced the strategy as well. The iPhone Duo introduces custom iOS designs and features that required a distinct software path. Keeping other models and unrelated features out of the 27.1 build simplified the development process for the engineering team.
iOS 27.2, which has been in beta for roughly a month, includes Suggested Actions in Messages and a redesigned Apple Music app. The update also adds user profiles to Apple TV and an overhauled Up Next queue in Podcasts. FaceTime gains Dual Capture for group calls, and Siri AI will support additional languages.
Owners of older devices will not miss any features when the next prompt appears. Since iOS 27.1 was never intended for their hardware, the jump to 27.2 represents the standard progression of the software roadmap.
