Jared Goff connected with Jameson Williams on a seven-yard touchdown pass with four minutes and 35 seconds remaining to secure a 19-15 victory for the Detroit Lions over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The result ended the Minnesota squad's undefeated run, marking their first defeat since a loss to Seattle on Nov. 30, 2025.
The Lions improved to 5-2 with their third consecutive win, extending their dominance in the NFC North. Minnesota dropped to 6-1. Detroit's ground attack proved decisive, led by Jahmyr Gibbs who rushed for 153 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Goff finished 18 of 25 for 176 yards and one interception.
The Vikings' offense struggled to generate momentum, managing only 81 rushing yards. Quarterback Kyler Murray threw for 210 yards on 17 of 29 attempts, with two touchdowns and one interception. Despite the offensive challenges, Minnesota held a 15-12 lead midway through the fourth quarter after T.J. Hockenson caught an eight-yard score and Jordan Addison completed a two-point conversion.
Detroit trailed 7-6 entering the final quarter after Jake Bates missed a 46-yard field goal attempt that hit the left upright. The game featured several controversial moments, including a reversed touchdown for Amon-Ra St. Brown who failed to secure the ball during a fingertip catch. The Lions also benefited from a diving interception by D.J. Reed late in the second quarter, which helped preserve a close margin.
Injuries affected both rosters during the contest. Vikings safety Theo Jackson suffered a quad injury. For Detroit, linebacker Jack Campbell was transported to a hospital with a neck injury. Safety Brian Branch and edge rusher DJ Wonnum were evaluated for concussions after colliding in the second quarter and did not return to the game.
Both teams begin new schedules next week. The Vikings host the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 9. The Lions travel to face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
