Lionsgate sets 2027 UK tour for Freida McFadden stage play

Lionsgate confirmed the first tour dates for the world premiere of The Housemaid stage play on Sunday. The production will open at London’s Richmond Theatre on Sept. 14, 2027, and run through the United Kingdom until April 29, 2028. The studio has not yet decided if the show will travel to the United States.

Bekah Brunstetter, a Tony Award nominee, will adapt Freida McFadden’s novel for the stage. Matthew Dunster, an Olivier Award nominee, will direct the psychological thriller. This marks the third major adaptation of McFadden’s work, following the book and the 2025 film.

The theatrical release arrives as the franchise expands into other media. The film adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney opened in theaters in December 2025. Following that release, Lionsgate greenlit a sequel based on The Housemaid’s Secret. That movie is scheduled for a theatrical premiere on Dec. 17, 2027.

Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate’s president of Global Products & Experiences, said the momentum behind the franchise continues to grow with both the stage play and the sequel film in development. Brown noted that the stage play debuts next year while the sequel is currently in production.

The plot centers on Millie, a former convict who works as a housemaid for Nina Winchester. Millie becomes involved with Nina’s husband, Andrew, but discovers that both employers are hiding identities. The story leads to violence and murder. The stage play follows the same narrative structure as the best-selling novel.
