Anthony Lloyd forced his way out of a health unit in Lewisham shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, prompting a citywide manhunt. The Metropolitan Police stated that the 38-year-old man is currently at large and poses a risk to both himself and the public. Officers have instructed residents not to approach him and to dial 999 if they spot him.
Lloyd was last seen at approximately 4:10 p.m. Friday heading toward Catford. In a statement released on Saturday, police confirmed he remains missing. The search operation is currently focused on London, but authorities are monitoring seven additional counties where Lloyd has known connections.
The inmate was convicted in 2025 of actual bodily harm. The crime involved three emergency services workers in Nottinghamshire. A court sentenced him to 12 months in custody. He was moved from prison to the Lewisham medical facility in September 2026.
Police describe Lloyd as white with a medium build and short dark hair. He stands 5 feet 8 inches tall. When he left the facility, he wore a grey-blue T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers.
Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley leads the search effort. She noted that officers are conducting various inquiries to locate Lloyd and return him to custody. Pressley urged the public to act with urgency if they have any details, no matter how small. She specifically asked people to contact police immediately rather than trying to speak to Lloyd directly.
Authorities believe Lloyd could be anywhere in the capital. However, police have identified links to six other regions, including Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and Merseyside. These areas are now part of the wider search perimeter.
Anyone with information is asked to call 999 and quote the reference CAD4739/23Oct. The reference number is tied to the specific incident report for the Lewisham escape.
