Automotive Luxury: BYD Targets UAE for Flagship Sedan Debut
BYD will launch its most expensive electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates, a strategic move that signals its entry into the ultra-luxury market with solid-state battery technology.

BYD has confirmed that the global premiere of its newest ultra-luxury electric sedan will occur in the United Arab Emirates, a decision that marks a significant departure from its usual launch strategy in China. Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing announced this week that the vehicle will debut outside the company’s home market, although a specific date for the event has not yet been finalized. This move underscores the manufacturer’s ambition to establish its premium brand in key international markets before a broader rollout.
The new model is positioned as the largest and most opulent electric car in the BYD portfolio. Its design mirrors the proportions of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, with local reports estimating the length at approximately 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches. The vehicle is intended to compete directly with established luxury marques such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. This is a striking contrast to the company’s reputation for affordable mass-market vehicles, such as the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China.
BYD has significantly expanded its product range in recent years, now offering everything from entry-level electric vehicles to three-row SUVs, pickup trucks, and high-performance supercars. The corporate structure includes the Dynasty and Ocean families under the main BYD name, alongside three distinct sub-brands: Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang. Yangwang occupies the top tier of this hierarchy and serves as the primary platform for showcasing the company’s most advanced engineering capabilities.
Previous models from the Yangwang line have utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which generates 1,300 horsepower, and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system. This technology allows vehicles to perform maneuvers such as jumping and driving on three wheels. Hu released images last month showing the new executive sedan undergoing testing. Although the prototype was camouflaged, its silhouette closely resembled the Maybach S-Class or Rolls-Royce Phantom. Zheng Yu, the executive general manager of Yangwang, stated that the car will feature unprecedented disruptive technology, though he did not provide specific technical details.
Several technical specifications can be inferred from recent observations. The sedan was photographed at a BYD flash charging station, indicating support for megawatt-level charging speeds. The vehicle also features rear-hinged coach doors, a first for the manufacturer, and is reportedly the first model to incorporate solid-state batteries. Stella Li, the company’s executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that BYD’s first solid-state battery vehicle is scheduled to debut in 2027.
The official debut of the sedan is expected to take place this month. Rumored pricing places the starting cost in the range of 2 million yuan, which is approximately $300,000. This price point positions the new sedan well above the current Yangwang lineup. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or about $98,000. The brand’s current highest-priced mass-produced vehicle is the extended U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, which starts at 1.45 million yuan, or roughly $217,000. The new flagship will sit above these models, reinforcing the brand’s upward trajectory in the luxury segment.
