Clinica Sierra Vista opened its parking lot to hundreds of residents on Sunday for a free Trunk-or-Treat event in southwest Bakersfield. The line of visitors circled the entire lot as families arrived ahead of the October 31 holiday.
Volunteers decorated their vehicles with seasonal themes and filled the trunks with candy. Participants included children and adults wearing costumes. Jamie Lujan, a grandmother attending with her family, stated that the lack of an entry fee removed financial worry. She noted that the event allowed her to bring everyone along without calculating costs for extras.
Community organizations used the gathering to connect families with local services. Hannah Weightman of the Community Action Partnership of Kern decorated her trunk with a Hocus Pocus theme. She explained that the event provided a direct channel to inform residents about available aid, as many people are unaware of existing programs in Kern County.
Dr. Olga Meave, the clinic's CEO, said the organization chose to host the event to support families facing economic pressure. The clinic is currently marking its 55th anniversary. Meave emphasized the importance of providing free options when the general financial situation is difficult for most households.
The clinic organized the afternoon to combine seasonal celebration with practical outreach. The event served as a central point for distributing treats and sharing information about regional resources.
