Hilary Rosen has become the new chair of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. She succeeds Sara Putt, who is stepping down after a three-year term. Rosen will now lead the academy’s efforts to support film, games, and television talent through its awards and development programs.
Rosen has held a position within the BAFTA Television Committee since 2021. She later served as its chair, where she helped shape the TV and Craft Awards and managed their juries. Her external role involves directing commissioning at UKTV, where she oversees the slate of original scripted and unscripted content.
Two individuals will support Rosen in the deputy chair roles. Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller will serve two-year terms as deputy chairs of the Academy. This structure places them directly beneath the new leadership team.
The academy also confirmed several board appointments following a thorough election process. Charu Desodt has been named chair of the Games Committee. Caroline Levy will lead the Television Committee. Nahrein Kemp will take up the role of LIT Committee Chair. Shrina Shah, currently chair of the governance and appointments committee, will join the Board of Trustees.
Rosen described the promotion as a great privilege. She stated that she is passionate about promoting the screen arts and championing talent across the industry. Rosen expressed confidence that the new board will build on previous work, citing the collective passion of the incoming leaders.
