Four people were wounded outside a boxing event south of Brisbane.
Queensland police said officers arrived at a licensed venue in Loganholme at 8.15pm on Saturday following reports that shots had been fired from a vehicle. The car was seen leaving the area, and all four injured people were taken to hospital for assessment.
Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road was scheduled to host the Logan City Titles Fight Night that evening. Deputy commander Chris Stream called the scene "confronting" and told the Today show that a number of people had suffered gunshot wounds.
Logan mayor Jon Raven said residents were frightened. "This has sent a shockwave through Logan. We've never seen something like this in Logan before," he told the program. Raven said he had attended similar events before and found them to be a family-friendly environment, with many children present. "This will impact them for the rest of their lives," he said.
Raven said the night was organised to help steer children away from violence, and that the organiser would be devastated by the outcome. Logan City Titles posted a statement Sunday morning saying the group was heartbroken about the incident and that such events have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community.
The offenders remain at large. Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
