Boise State women’s basketball defeated Bushnell 84-48 on Monday morning to start its season.
The Broncos controlled the contest through aggressive defense and rebounding, forcing 26 turnovers and securing 23 offensive rebounds. Guard CJ Latta led the team with 21 points, converting seven of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. The squad finished the game with 11 made 3-pointers.
Latta credited her teammates for the high scoring output. “I felt very confident out there with my teammates,” Latta said. “We love to share the ball with each other, that’s the reason we scored 84 tonight. But I think that is exactly what Bronco basketball is, sharing the ball very well. It meant a lot for me to play in my hometown again.”
Boise State built its lead early. The team collected 11 offensive rebounds in the first quarter, generating eight second-chance points. Mason Borcherding scored twice off those boards, while Latta added two 3-pointers. Kenna Garza finished the quarter with a layup, giving the Broncos a 16-10 lead.
The Broncos extended their advantage in the second quarter with a 14-0 run between 7:02 and 3:59. Boise State made six consecutive field goals during that stretch. The game remained out of reach in the fourth quarter. Boise State grabbed 16 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, while committing only one turnover. Izzie Harms and Milly Sharp added late baskets as the Broncos outscored Bushnell 21-15. Head coach Gordy Presnell praised Latta’s shooting, noting she did a nice job when the team struggled. “I was really pumped for CJ to come in and hit seven threes,” Presnell said. “We have a lot to work on, and a lot to look forward to for Friday.” The Broncos will host Portland State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6.
