Brandon Aiyuk filed paperwork on Wednesday to be reinstated by the NFL, a move that reverses a public stance he took four months ago. The veteran wide receiver, currently listed on the San Francisco 49ers Reserve/Left Squad, is scheduled to report to the team's training facility on Friday.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the filing in a social media post cited by NFL insider Adam Schefter. Rosenhaus stated that Aiyuk is healthy and prepared to return to the field.
The decision contrasts sharply with comments Aiyuk made in July. In a post reported by NBC, the receiver declared he would not be reinstated with the 49ers or conduct any further business with the franchise. He described himself as locked in on his opportunity to play this season.
Aiyuk’s return to the team facility creates a complex situation for San Francisco. The 49ers currently face injuries at the wide receiver position, which may influence their roster decisions regarding Aiyuk's status.
The player is now positioned to potentially rejoin the active roster, a shift from his earlier assertion that the relationship was over. The outcome of his Friday visit will determine his immediate standing with the club.
