Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed on Sunday that nine people died when a private jet crashed in Palm Beach, Florida. The accident occurred near the Cresthaven neighborhood, triggering a wave of misinformation on social media that incorrectly linked the singer Lenny Kravitz to the incident.

The West Palm Beach Fire Department reported the Learjet 60 went down around 1:00 p.m. on November 1. The aircraft was traveling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. It struck a tree along Military Trail, a road between Cresthaven and 10th Avenue.

Online users began identifying the plane's pilot as Kravitz. The confusion stemmed from a photo the pilot had previously posted showing a flight with the musician on a similar route. TMZ noted that internet users erroneously linked the pilot to the 62-year-old singer based on this image.

Kravitz's team responded to the reports by calling them false and incorrect. The pilot also addressed the rumors on TikTok to clarify that she was not the person operating the crashed aircraft. She asked the public to stop speculating and to respect those involved in the tragedy.

In her video, the pilot stated she learned about the rumors recently and wanted to respectfully clarify her status. She expressed condolences to all those killed or affected by the crash. The pilot urged viewers to avoid spreading erroneous information about the incident.

The crash site was located in a residential area of Palm Beach. The Learjet was en route to the Bahamas at the time of the collision. Duffy’s confirmation of the nine fatalities finalized the immediate casualty count for the accident.
