A joke about interior design became a central theme in a Georgia campaign stop on Wednesday.

Barack Obama stood on stage in Morrow, Georgia, and compared the current state of the White House to a Cheesecake Factory owned by Saddam Hussein. The comment referenced earlier remarks he made about renovations during Donald Trump’s presidency.

Obama argued that the administration’s response to his quip revealed a misplaced sense of priority. He stated that the White House contacted the Treasury Secretary to have him visit a restaurant in the chain and defend the building’s appearance. This happened, according to Obama, while the government failed to answer his specific accusations regarding rising prices and corruption.

The former president used the incident to criticize how federal resources are allocated. He noted that families remain worried about the cost of living and inflation, yet the administration reacted quickly to a decorative complaint. Obama framed this as part of a broader push to hold elected officials accountable for their ethical standards and economic decisions.

The rally took place just days before key legislative elections. Obama campaigned alongside Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, who is running against Republican Mike Collins. In Ohio on the same day, Trump held a rally to support Republican candidates. Both parties are competing for control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, where Republicans currently hold an advantage.

Obama urged voters to focus on the performance of the government rather than headline-grabbing disputes. He accused those in high office of normalizing lies, intimidation, and the use of money as a measure of value. Millions of Americans have already cast early ballots, making turnout a decisive factor in these contests.

The exchange marks a new chapter in the public confrontation between the two former and current leaders. Obama’s speech shifted the focus from the physical structure of the White House to the economic and moral choices made by the sitting administration.
