The NFL landscape is shifting rapidly this week. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles face off Monday night in Philadelphia. Both squads currently hold a 2-4 record. They are desperate to rejoin the race for the NFC East title.

The stakes are high because the division is unusually weak. The New York Giants sit atop the standings at 3-2-1. The Cowboys and Eagles trail them by only a small margin. The past two weeks have been a blur for the entire division. Every team played twice and failed to win a single game. This marks the first time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger that such a result has occurred in a single division.

Philadelphia is dealing with a four-game losing streak. It is their first of this length since 2020. Their offense has struggled mightily, scoring just 58 points in those four losses. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the season due to blood clots. That leaves Tanner McKee in charge. McKee spent his first two seasons as a backup. Last week was his first true start. He had only two days of practice with the first team. This week, he has a full week to work with offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee noted that he feels well prepared and plans to consult the coaching staff more often.

The Eagles' ground game is also in shambles. Saquon Barkley is sidelined with a hamstring injury. His backups are also hurt. Carson Steele, a recent addition from the practice squad, injured his shoulder. Dameon Pierce was the only healthy option against Carolina. He rushed for 35 yards. The Cowboys allow 4.7 yards per carry on average. This matchup will test McKee's ability to manage the line without his primary weapons.

Dallas has its own issues. Their defense ranks 30th in the league under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. The offense scored only 29 points in their last two games. They lost to Green Bay 23-13 last week. It is the first time since 2019 that Dak Prescott has scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts. Owner Jerry Jones said he does not expect further coaching changes. He called the recent hiring of Mike Pettine a strategic move.

Individual records are on the line for both teams. Javonte Williams has seven rushing touchdowns through six games. He is second in Cowboys history for that span. CeeDee Lamb has 48 receptions, a franchise record for six games. He is close to 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one more catch for a franchise milestone. The Cowboys are favored by 4 points. They lead the all-time series 72-58. The last meeting ended 24-21 in favor of Dallas. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN.

The Eagles play at Washington on Nov. 1. They then host the Giants to close out their divisional stretch. That sequence will determine if their season is salvageable.
