Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party and a former IDF chief, released a campaign video on X/Twitter Saturday attacking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to build alternative financial mechanisms for Israel. The video opens with the line 'All of our money is at risk.'
The footage includes excerpts from an earlier Channel 10 interview in which Netanyahu said Israel must 'prepare for an alternative economy' because of the international sanctions the country faces. In the same interview, Netanyahu said digital finance would 'certainly' be part of that plan and added: 'I've already asked for a plan to be prepared for that.'
Eisenkot's campaign labeled the concept 'Bibicoin' and said such a financial mechanism would 'destroy Israel.' The video claimed an alternative system would produce 'an economy like North Korea and Iran' and stated the result would be 'the end of high-tech, the end of healthcare, the end of security.' It also asked how global high-tech investment could reach Israeli companies if digital currency were the only method available.
In a separate post on X, Eisenkot wrote that Netanyahu 'admits that the policy he's leading and wants to lead Israel toward will result in international isolation and economic sanctions that will shake the economy and the market,' calling it 'the collapse of our national security.'
The video warned that 150 billion shekels face risk. The exchange follows Netanyahu's Channel 10 remarks on contingency planning for Israel's economy.
