The Los Angeles Kings have found consistency away from home after a difficult start to the season. They defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 on Monday night at Madison Square Garden, marking their third victory in the last four games.
Los Angeles built a fast lead in the first period. Taylor Ward scored on the team's first shot at 1:15. Brandt Clarke added a rebound goal at 4:52. Drew Doughty followed with a one-timer from the left point. New York pulled goaltender James Reimer after he allowed three goals on eight shots.
Doughty recorded a goal and two assists in his first three-point game since February 2025. Artemi Panarin added a power-play goal and an assist. Mikey Anderson scored in the second period. Twelve Kings players recorded a point in the win. Darcy Kuemper stopped 23 shots to earn the victory.
New York's offense stalled early but managed to cut the deficit. J.T. Miller scored on a deflection off his skate. Adam Fox reduced the lead to 5-2 on a power play. Tye Kartye and Joel Edmundson added late goals for their respective teams. Edmundson scored into an empty net for his first goal of the season.
Coach Peter Laviolette credited the team's speed and decision-making. "We played the game fast and we made good decisions," Laviolette said. "And we attacked." Doughty emphasized the team's response to conceding goals. "If we give up a goal, we can't deflate, we need to go and get the next one," he said.
The Kings conclude their current road trip on Tuesday. They travel to Chicago to play at 5 p.m. PT. New York's goaltending situation remains in flux. Dylan Garand started every game since Igor Shesterkin suffered a season-ending injury on Oct. 9. The Rangers signed Reimer on Sunday and used him immediately to provide relief for Garand.
New York has lost four of its last six games. The team has allowed 18 goals during its current three-game losing streak. The Kings improved to a 3-5-2 record, while New York fell to 1-4-1 over its last six contests.
