Three Triangle restaurants secured new Bib Gourmand designations at the 2026 Michelin Guide American South ceremony on Wednesday. The honorees included Ajja in Raleigh, Ideal's in Durham, and Tesoro in Carrboro. This recognition joins Prime Barbecue, Mala Pata, and Sam Jones BBQ, which maintained their existing status. Sixteen other local establishments, such as Brewery Bhavana and Poole's, kept their Michelin recommended listings.

Major brand expansions are reshaping the downtown dining map. Maggiano's Little Italy will occupy the former Brio Italian Grille space at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh. This location will serve as the chain's second outlet in the Triangle, following its existing spot at Streets at Southpoint in Durham. The company has not announced an opening date for the new family-style restaurant.

Millie's Homemade Ice Cream is set to open its first North Carolina location in Raleigh. The Pittsburgh-based franchise will operate from 325 Blake St. in City Market, situated next to Blackbird Books and Coffee. According to the Triangle Business Journal, the shop aims to open before the end of the year. Meanwhile, South Block, a chain known for acai bowls and smoothies, is preparing to enter the Raleigh market. It will open at 4121 Main at North Hills St. next to bartaco, as reported by RALtoday. No specific launch date has been set for this expansion from its Charlotte locations.

Other notable openings include Grain & Berry at 2017 Creekside Landing Drive in Apex, its second North Carolina location after Holly Springs. In Durham, M Kikkei, formerly M Pocha, is holding an invitation-only soft opening on October 24. The Nikkei restaurant, located at 101 E. Chapel Hill St., will hold its grand opening on October 29. It marks the seventh concept in the Mpire group. Conversely, Sushioki in Research Triangle Park has closed permanently after eight years of operation.

Winston's Grille in Raleigh is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Wil O'Neal and Charles Winston Jr. founded the establishment in 1986. In Pittsboro, Tavolo Italian Eatery has opened in MOSAIC at Chatham Park. Gandy Coffee House is scheduled to open in early 2027 inside the historic Captain J. F. Alston House.

The region's event calendar includes the inaugural Chapel Hill Biscuit Festival on October 25. The event will take place at American Legion Post 6, with proceeds benefiting SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals. The third Rawleigh Oyster Fest, themed Smoke & Shuck, is scheduled for November 7 at Raleigh Iron Works. Organizers introduced a $60 Half Shell ticket, which includes nine oysters, two bites, and one drink, in response to feedback regarding previous pricing. The last two editions of the festival sold out and raised approximately $12,500 combined.

The Trophy Trot 5K will return to Dix Park on Thanksgiving morning, November 26. The 10th edition of the race benefits Healing Transitions. Nearly 3,000 participants signed up last year, and the event donated about $60,000, an increase from the $42,000 raised the year prior. The North Carolina State Fair continues through Sunday, while the Food Bank highlights Tackling Hunger Month. The organization notes that more than 600,000 local residents face food insecurity, and every $25 donation provides 75 meals.
