Aircraft tracking data recorded a descent rate of 30,000 feet per minute in the final moments before a Learjet 60 struck a roadway in Palm Beach County, Florida. The plane hit the ground near the Cresthaven intersection at approximately 12:50 p.m. ET on Sunday. All nine individuals on board perished in the impact.

The business jet departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas with North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas as its final destination. Federal Aviation Administration officials confirmed the flight path and crash site. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy verified the death toll in a social media post. He asked the public to pray for the families of the deceased.

Air traffic control recordings indicate the pilot reported encountering turbulence, icing, and precipitation shortly before the crash. The crew requested a climb of 2,000 feet. The aircraft subsequently entered a steep dive. It accelerated beyond its structural design limits before banking sharply to the right. The pilot declared an emergency and issued distress calls during the descent.

Witnesses described a massive fireball erupting upon impact. One observer noted the scene looked as if a meteor had hit the ground. The jet crashed onto a road near Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. The aircraft appeared to narrowly miss nearby homes. Officials said it was unclear whether the crash caused damage to the surrounding residential structures.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with support from the FAA. A federal team was dispatched to the scene to assist in the inquiry. It was not immediately clear whether anyone on the ground sustained injuries from the collision or the subsequent fire.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis praised the rapid response of local first responders. He stated that the quick action helped stabilize the situation. DeSantis noted that fire and debris were prevalent at the scene. He acknowledged that more people could have been harmed had the responders not acted swiftly. The governor thanked the sheriff's department and fire crews on behalf of the state.

Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes around the crash site on Sunday. The area remained a focal point for emergency operations. The NTSB will continue to analyze flight data and cockpit recordings as part of its ongoing review of the incident.
